Death in Venice, Tour of Croatian National theatre

Writer Gustav von Aschenbach escapes from the dead of Munich to a secluded resort near Venice in search of inspiration. But instead of calm, a burning passion engulfs him. The object of worship is forbidden, but from this desire and excitement only increases. The only way out is to leave the city and try to forget about unlawful love. But in the city, a cholera epidemic is raging, Gustav himself becomes a victim. He was sentenced to spend the last moments of his life on the beach, watching the pranks of a charming angel, whose love is criminal.

The key to the stage embodiment of history was the bewitching music of Gustav Mahler, which the composer’s contemporaries called the “musical miracle”. There is a version that it was from Mahler that the image of a writer who was a victim of unhappy love was written off – his music reveals the gamut of emotions experienced by a person who became a slave to passion.

The author of the choreography is Valentina Turku, who has created more than 126 theatrical projects as a performer and author, winner of an award for outstanding services in the field of directing and choreography (2013). The production of “Death in Venice” is the first collaboration of the choreographer with the ballet of the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb and is recognized today as the best performance in its production.
